Mr. Holten reading the Lorax.
Period 3 Climate Change Debate
Students are taking a stance on Global Climate Change. In this debate one team is stating human actions are causing the rise in global temperatures and the other team is referencing natural causes and weather trends over the last 50 million years.
Ian Mimicking High and Low Pressure (Nor’Easter Snow Storm)
This student shows with total clarity a model that demonstrates how low pressure (warm air) rising causes condensation while high pressure (heavy sinking air) ramps up the energy creating a stronger Nor’Easter!!
Hit the Video Link Below!! It will download to your computer. Then you can play it!!
Tornado Formation
Tornadoes form when warm, humid air collides with cold, dry air. The denser cold air is pushed over the warm air, usually producing thunderstorms. The warm air rises through the colder air, causing an updraft. The updraft will begin to rotate if winds vary sharply in speed or direction.
Dual Disaster (Meteorite/Plate Tectonics)
This team of scientists created two energy sources which serve to create a Tsunami. The meteorite creates waves as it enters the ocean and the plates moving under the sea cause large waves to move to the surface.
Bringing The Tsunami: Plate Tectonics at Work!!
These weather groups mimicked the movement of Earth’s plates and demonstrated how this energy causes tsunamis 🌊 to occur!!
Tsunami In Action!!!!
This team is using a pseudo plate to replicate plate tectonics. The movement of the plate causes energy to transfer from the plate to the water. The result is a massive wave that caused destruction on land. (See video link below)
Tornado in a Bottle: Creating a Water Vortex!!
This team is using physics to replicate the energy in a tornado. See if you can upload the video link below to watch this team in action.
Mimic A Hurricane?
This team is using boiling water and ice cubes to create energy. The movement of this energy in a bowl replicates a hurricane.
Making A Blizzard
This student is using common household materials to replicate a Nor’ Easter. He is using alka-seltzer to create the lifting energy of the low pressure.
